Dr. Madeleine Albright has a new book, Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America's Reputation and Leadership. Denver is in ways, "home" to Dr. Albright as her father, Josef, was the founding dean of the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver.
Madeleine Albright graduated from the Kent Denver School. She was awarded a Bachelor's degree from Wellesley College with honors in Political Science, she studied at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, received a Certificate from the Russian Institute at Columbia University, and received her Master's and Doctorate from Columbia University's Department of Public Law and Government.
When Madeleine Albright was confirmed as the 64th Secretary of State of the United States, she became the first female United States Secretary of State and the highest ranking woman in the history of the United States government.
She was appointed by President Bill Clinton on December 5, 1996, and was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate 99-0. She was sworn in on January 23, 1997. As Secretary, Dr. Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, promoted American trade and business, and labor and environmental standards abroad. She is currently a professor at Georgetown University.
