Michael Hamaker studied journalism at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. His emphasis is in photojournalism and he received a minor in anthropology. Born and raised in Colorado, he graduated from Littleton High School in the summer of 2003 at the age of 17 and began studying photography and journalism at Metro under the tutelage of Kenn Bisio.

For Michael, photography is not simply a way to document the world around us but a way to illuminate the human condition. To him, the most important thing about a photograph is its subject matter. A photographer has a responsibility to use his/her skill to make images that are both aesthetically pleasing and provide enlightenment about their subjects.

In his college experience, Michael gained grounding in both digital photography and traditional film and darkroom techniques. He has documented the historic Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in Alamosa, Colorado and co-produced a local gallery show for himself and fellow Metro State photographers. He is always looking for new opportunities and experiences to strengthen his craft and loves nothing more than making images.
